Time Series Reconstruction: a Method to Enhance Transient Lock-in Thermography Images
نویسندگان
چکیده
Lock-in thermography is a popular thermal non-destructive testing (TNDT) technique which like other active thermographic techniques, requires an external heating stimulus, preferably on a blackened surface. It is not however, immune to non-ideal situations like non-uniform heating and surface emissivity variation. The phase image, to some extent, helps to reduce the effect of these artifacts, but is inadequate if the variations are large. This paper reports an image reconstruction algorithm for off-line removal of such artifacts.

The Thermographic Signal Reconstruction (TSR) technique, based on the logarithmic polynomial fitting of the temperature time-evolution, improves the efficiency of pulse-stimulated thermography. However, the non-destructive evaluation of the inspected structure requires the analysis of the full temperature-time sequence. This drawback impacts all transient thermal NDE method whatsoever. A new po...

Composite materials have appropriate thermal properties for detection flaws by means of non-destructive infrared thermography methods. Infrared thermography methods are based on tracking heat flow that has been induced by flood lamps. Lock-in thermography, as one of infrared thermography methods, is used in detection of flaws. Surface of specimen is periodically heated by heat flow in form of s...

Thermography is an emerging technology used by construction professionals focused upon the thermal and condition performance of buildings. However, the interpretation of thermal images is difficult and often misinterpreted. This paper reports on initial work that compares thermographic images from relatively simple experimental setups with transient models of the same experiment. Thermographic ...

Infrared thermography is a nondestructive evaluation technique aimed to the detection of surface temperature variations related to the presence of subsurface defects. Several inspection techniques have been developed over the years with basically two approaches, lock-in thermography and pulsed thermography. These two techniques are based on the principle of heat diffusion and thermal wave refle...
